Avenue in Oceania is a three-piece ensemble hailing from
the Santa Ana region of California.  The band consists of
vocalist Jason Katz, guitarist Kamyar Livari, and Andy
Frazier on synths. Their self-titled debut album delivers an intoxicating assortment of Darkwave tracks with
thought-provoking lyrics. The CD begins with Persona,
a dose of electronic rock with a catchy percussive beat that
will instantly grab listeners and summon them to the
dance floor. Katz’s smooth vocals take on an edgier quality
on the fast-paced techno-rocker GPD.  Powerful guitar riffs
and haunting synth work combine to create the dark and
hypnotic melody of One Vision. Other irresistible dance
tracks include Culture Shock, and the final song,
The Agnostic. Reminiscent of Assemblage 23,
Avenue in Oceania infuses modern dance music with
infectious melodies that echo in your head long after the CD
is over. This is a stellar debut from a band that deserves
recognition. Recommended.
